Movie data: IMDB
Astronomer Dr. Carl Sagan is host and narrator of this 13-hour series that originally aired on Public Broadcasting Stations in the United States. Dr. Sagan describes the universe in a way that appeals to a mass audience, by using Earth as a reference point, by speaking in terms intelligible to non-scientific people, by relating the exploration of space to that of the Earth by pioneers of old, and by citing such Earth legends as the Library of Alexandria as metaphors for space-related future events.
What Sagan and his team achieve in Cosmos is quite amazing—gorgeous yet scientifically-accurate visuals, Vangelis' oddly undated synthesizer score, historical dramatizations of scientists past, and Sagan's unique brand of verbal techno-eloquence combine to draw in both the emotions and intellect.

Carl Sagan not only brought the rest of us along on his many travels through the Universe, he was kind enough to loan us his own sense of wonder to view it with. Nowhere was that sense of wonder more apparent, than in his 1980, Emmy and Peabody award-winning television series, Cosmos.

If you only buy one documentary on DVD or any other format, ever, it should be Cosmos. There's simply no better single program on science out there. A joy to watch and a joy to re-watch.

I can’t recommend Cosmos too highly. It’s a fantastic exploration of the universe, science, and humanity’s efforts throughout history to understand the cosmos and our place in it. Carl Sagan is the perfect guide on this journey.
