Movie data: IMDB
Hunter S. Thompson didn't write stories he lived them. This documentary about a life that was often out of control and always interesting captures Thompson s spirit through stories told by some of the outlaw celebrities he inspired. Nick Nolte Johnny Depp and Sean Penn are among the voices who piece together the biography of the man who put Gonzo Journalism on the map
Devotees won't find much here they don't already know, but as an introduction to the man and his work, it's ideal. Buy the ticket, take the ride, just don't expect much beyond John Cusack telling a funny story about playing "shotgun golf" with Hunter.

After watching it i cant help feel this was done with respect and good intention but fell short of the target. Its main problem is too many actors recollections and not enough Hunter.

For Thompson newcomers or for those who have a peripheral knowledge of his work, this documentary efficiently covers the life, times, and death of the literary legend. But for people expecting a probing look at how Thompson’s work has been translated by Hollywood, look elsewhere.

While this isn't the best documentary on Hunter S. Thompson ever made, it is an interesting look at the films that his life inspired. The interviews are, for the most part, fairly interesting and while we don't really learn anything new about Thompson from this film, it's at least an interesting examination of his life, times and influence.
