Alaska: Spirit of the Wild is a full immersion experience. The cameras close in on a pack of wolves as they hunt, a herd of caribou as they graze, and thunder through the tundra giving the viewer a never before seen perspective of one of the earth's most fascinating places.

This is a well done travelog of Alaska, with beautiful photogragh and narration by Charleston Heston. Anyone interested in "The 49th State" will find this a welcome addition to their film library.

Charlton Heston’s elegantly intoned narration keeps us comfortably up to date with the spectacular images, and while the slick editing prevents it from being a particularly informative documentary, for pure escapism, Alaska is a wonderful, invigorating and unbeatable experience.

Apparently the filmmakers felt they had to set up conflicts - potentially violent ones - to keep our attention. Wolves are portrayed as evil villains disrupting the peaceable arctic kingdom. Perhaps the screenwriters thought a movie about the interdependent ecosystem that preserves the wilderness' balance wasn't riveting enough.
